During the feminist movement of the 1980s, Tindlemanor Limited (which at the time consisted of Homeless Action and Accommodation, Lesbian Line, London Women’s Aid, Rights of Women, Women’s Aid Federation and Women’s Reproductive Rights Information Centre) received a grant from the Greater London Council Women’s Committee to buy a building to provide a permanent base specifically for women's organisations to operate; a further grant was given to refurbish this former print factory to suitable office accommodation and meeting space.
In 1984 these organisations, together with Women’s Aid Black Members Group, Women’s Health Information Centre and Women and Manual Trades, moved into 52-54 Featherstone St and Tindlemanor opened for business. The deed to the property was originally held in trust by the GLC and now by London Borough of Islington with covenants that the space should only be used by women's organisations.
Since then numerous women's organisations have taken up residence, and our building has been used to help and support many thousands of women in many ways over the past three decades.
